FIA Region I Road Safety Activities

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), as a long-time key actor on road safety, is supporting the Decade of Action global initiative, which is divided into five separate pillars:

1. Building road safety management capacity
2. Upgrading the safety of road infrastructure
3. Further developing the safety of vehicles
4. Enhancing the behaviour of road users
5. Improving emergency services

The FIA has set up its own campaign to support the Decade's goals 'Action for Road Safety' with a dedicated website available at: http://www.actionforroadsafety.org.

The FIA Region I office, representing over 100 motoring and touring clubs across Europe, Africa and the Middle East, organised and supported some 16 national events throughout the region for the launch of the Decade of Action on 11th May.

Highlights included seven-time Formula One World Champion, Michael Schumacher, offering his support for the Decade at a reception organised in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, and hosted by the President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek.
